The Irrepressibles illustrations

October 10th, 2010

Earlier this week Andrew Lockwood from Amelias Magazine (A daily online magazine focusing on art, music, fashion and earth ) went and met with Jamie McDermot, frontman from the band The Irrepressibles to ask him about his life, his music and the extravagant performance art-style the band is known for.

A long time admirer of this band I was quite exited to do the illustrations to accompany Andrew’s interview with Jamie.

Dypsomania bids farewell to legend expat

October 6th, 2010

This is a homage to my friend J.B. Shoemaker who, even though he was just about to set sail to Bahamas, had to check out early.

Our expat paths crossed in prague, I met him in the infamous Prague expat haunt Marquis de Sade that he ran at the time.

From the time we first met he was always a source of inspiration, from our plans of writing graphic novels together-

there was one about a hunchback in the Tyn and a mysterious large amount of Dwarfs in Prague, entitled Dypsomania:

or a more obscure and ramble-full tale of three pals on an adventure, including 49 year old quarterbacks, and finger-eating spitting lizards:

to his inability of showing up on time or when promised, followed by his talent for excuses that made it all worth wile:

Im sorry you had to leave so soon JB, I was hoping for more stories to come.

Piction Crew online Characters

Piction Media crew

I recently made these character portraits for my friends up north from Piction Media.

They wanted some digital mini-me’s to represent them around the interwebs.

Piction Media do “Artistry and Prose for Brand development” combining Matt’s 17 years of experience  in digital illustration with Alison’s copywriting and content creation skills and her background as an independent non-fiction writer.

They also maintain a very nice blog called Planet Piction where they blog on topics such as art, design and branding and they also profile designers and illustrators they have worked with- ooh, for example here’s one about me: Adventures in Helmetgirl’s Vector Verden

New web design: Natalitique

June 6th, 2010

I am happy to introduce to you a new pretty destination on the World-wide-web: www.natalitique.com

Natalitique is the home of web developer Natalia Pavlova whom I have had the pleasure of working with on a number of projects. She is the master of details and it seems no matter how impossible a visual you come up with, she can manage to build it.

So I was quite excited when she asked me to help out with the visuals for her new website.

She wanted something clean and uncluttered to reflect what it is she does, namely writing clean, short and clever xhtml and css that works across browsers. No less!

So we made a very white  and clean design with a few nice details such as little fancy bullets to spice it up.

detail from Natalitique

To contrast all the white and straight lines we chose to use a coloured background and an illustrated header with a green natural touch- this because of  Natalia’s personal interests in ecology and her love of nature.

Check out the site and meet Natalia here

Party-dress ala andaluz

April 23rd, 2010

Senora de La Feria

As it is friday, I thought some party-atmos would be in order.

Here in Andalucia where I am now, the feria season has kicked off- That means week long town celebrations with fairs and music and nice food. And then of course, this is the time  for little girls, hot latinas and grandmothers too, to get that flamenco dress out and the big earrings on!

This Señora is inspired by a lovely lady I saw at the Feria in La Linea last year.
