New Illustration:

Going Sailing

I just finished this and wanted to share it. It started as a redwine induced sketch from my little sketchbook that I always have with me.

I wanted the illustration to have a textured feel to it, a slightly flat look. I normally create my illustration using a combination of hand sketching, illustrator line drawing and then a finish in Photoshop.

This one was created solely in Illustrator though. I used patterns and gradients to give it texture.

I finally have my own blog- this will be a place for me to share sketches, new ideas, work and general news, and hopeful also a place for feedback from fellow illustrators, designers, and friends.

This blog is a wordpress blog, so thank you to the nice people that create wp and makes it available for untechy people like me.

And a big thank you to the talented Natalia Pavlova for the help with making it look the way I wanted and lots of tips and advice along the way in the  making of my website and this blog.

Character design for DiveSpain

Friday, November 13th, 2009

A while ago Jouni from DiveSpain came to me and asked if I could create an illustrated header or character for the DiveSpain website.

DiveSpain.net is a popular web community with interesting diving related content and an active member base. The illustration was to be an integrated element in the header to give the site a bit more personality.

Jouni sent me a very good brief for doing this job, with ideas he had, and mentions of what other diving sites are doing.

Based on Jounis brief I came up with some different options:

Initial sketches for the divespain header

Jouni decided to go for the cartoony diver, as this was the more personal solution and it illustrates something called the perfect position in diving language. This cartoony diver was also easy to use around the web, as an avatar for Divespain.

As I don’t have a lot of experience with diving I had to get some more pointers from Jouni, so the position, and airpipes etc. looked correct even if simplified.

And here is the Final version:

Wedding greeting card

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

My brother recently tied the knot with his lovely girlfriend.

I made this picture for them as my little homage to them and their love.

I based it on a bunch of new and old photos of them, for some reason I mainly had photos of them making weird faces. But I think it turned out quite alright.
